Fairfax Teen Found Dead in Baltimore

Teen left note she was running away, police say

A Fairfax County teen was found dead in Baltimore on Sunday after leaving a note to her family that she was running away a few days earlier, prompting police to investigate the case as a suspicious death.

Annie McCann, 16, of Fairfax, Va., went missing on Friday, and her body was found early Sunday morning in a public housing development in southeast Baltimore, police said. A man taking out garbage found McCann at about 3 a.m. near a trash bin, police spokesman Troy Harris said. Her car was found about five blocks away.

McCann lived with her parents in the Groveton area of Fairfax and was a junior at West Potomac High School. Her parents told police they last saw her at 5:30 a.m. Friday.

She didn't show up at school that day. According to Fairfax police, her parents returned home Friday evening to find a note from her saying that she was running away.

Police are investigating what led up to the teen's death. Read the full report by the Washington Post, by clicking here.
