Police are looking for the person who shot a dog with a pellet gun.

The owners of a pitbull named Patti let the animal out in their fenced-in back yard in a neighborhood along Scott Drive in Fairfax, Va., police said.

A few hours later, the owners realized the 3-year-old dog was bleeding and limping.

They took her to a vet where they found out she had been shot.

The pellet cannot be taken out, but Patti is expected to make a full recovery.
