Fairfax County Police Sponsor Women's Defense Class

Two-day self-defense course for women ages 13 and up

Fairfax County Police will sponsor a two-day self-defense course exclusively for women.

Available to all women 13 years of age of older, the safety course will help prepare women against attackers by teaching risk awareness and reduction, crime prevention strategies, defensive concepts and hands-on training in defensive tactics.

Police say that these techniques can protect students when applied swiftly and correctly.

Trained experts will teach the course and will test women on their newly learned skills in realistic, controlled environments.

Women will experience what it is like to be suddenly grabbed in a stairwell, parking lot or elevator, and how to defend themselves in those situations.

The course is free through its introductory time period and is open to all women 13 years or older, but a female guardian must company all teenagers.

Classes will be held at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy located at 14601 Lee Road in Chantilly from 6 to 9 p.m., beginning May 22.

Due to the nature of the course, men are not allowed to attend.

Fairfax County Police has sponsoroed the course in conjunction with the Fairfax Police Law Enforcement Foundation and the C&J Security Corporation.
