Facebook Bomb Threat Suspect Pleads to Lesser Charge

An Arlington, Va., man charged with threatening on Facebook to detonate pipe bombs on Metro trains and in the Georgetown neighborhood has been sentenced to two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to a less serious charge.

Lawyers said in court Tuesday that 25-year-old Awais Younis lacked the ability to carry out the threat, and did not appear to intend to harm anyone.

The Afghanistan native pleaded guilty to a scaled-back charge of making a threat against another person over the Internet, admitting that he sent the messages in December to another Facebook user.

Younis was expected to be released from federal custody Wednesday after getting credit for three months in jail.
