FDA's White Oak Campus Briefly Locked Down

A Food and Drug Administration (FDA) campus was briefly placed on a partial lockdown Thursday morning on Montgomery County, Maryland.

The action was taken as a precaution due to an unauthorized weapon in a locked vehicle on the FDA's White Oak campus, said a spokeswoman. The FDA's White Oak campus is located at New Hampshire Avenue and Colesville Road in Silver Spring.

No one was injured and no employees were in imminent danger, said Heidi Rebello, deputy director for operations for the FDA.

It was not immediately known what kind of weapon was reportedly in the vehicle.

A person of interest is cooperating with law enforcement officers, and the FDA is continuing to investigate the incident, Rebello said.

"We appreciate that this is unsettling, but the safety of our employees is our top priority, and we are confident that this situation was resolved quickly," Rebello said in a statement. "Normal building operations have now resumed."
