FBI Joins Search for Gas Station Employee's Killer

The FBI is joining the search for the man who gunned down a store clerk inside a Maryland gas station last week.

Surveillance video shows a man entering the Exxon gas station at 7898 Ridge Road in Hanover shortly after 1 a.m. Aug. 7 and confronting the clerk, Rajinder Kumar of Glen Burnie.

Police say the video shows the suspect having trouble pulling the trigger of his gun a couple of times before he shot 49-year-old Kumar in the chest. He is then seen grabbing money from the counter.

A $27,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and indictment.

“This is a cold-blooded killer who is living freely amongst his friends and family as we speak,” said Anne Arundel County Police Chief Kevin Davis.

About 30 minutes later, a customer entered the business and found Kumar injured and unconscious. Police say Kumar died at the scene.

Police have not said how much money he got away with, or whether he fled on foot or by car.

“We know we’re asking someone who knows the shooter to come forward and that’s not an easy thing to do. But an innocent man was shot and killed for no reason,” said Special Agent in Charge of the Baltimore Division of the FBI.

Anyone with information is asked is call Anne Arundel County Police homicide detectives at 410-222-8610.
