If you see fighter jets in the air Wednesday, don't panic -- it's a NORAD exercise.

Don’t be alarmed if you hear loud noises overhead as you’re trying to fall asleep Wednesday night.

The U.S. military is planning some training flights to test the region's air defenses.

The North American Aerospace Defense Command said the flights are scheduled to take place over the Washington area between 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and 5 a.m. Thursday.

NORAD conducts such exercises monthly to hone its intercept and identification operations and test the region's visual warning system.

In the event of inclement weather, the exercise will take place Thursday into Friday.
