Ex-Va. Sheriff's Misconduct Case Goes to Trial

Former Franklin County Sheriff Ewell Hunt's misconduct case is going to trial.

The bench trial is set to begin Tuesday morning in Franklin County General District Court in Rocky Mount.

Hunt is charged with misconduct by an elected official. The charge stems from an investigation into how Hunt handled warnings that preceded a Memorial Day 2011 shooting.

Former Deputy Jonathan Agee is awaiting trial on charges of killing his ex-wife in Roanoke and shooting a Virginia State Police sergeant in the leg in Montgomery County.

According to reports at the time, Hunt's office was told that Agee was armed and planning to harm his ex-wife. A call log shows that Hunt told employees not to alert other police agencies, saying he would handle the situation himself.
