Ex-Middle School Aide Faces 206 Charges Involving Sex Abuse of Charles County Children

A former Charles County, Maryland, middle school teacher’s aide was indicted on more than 200 counts involving sex abuse of 42 alleged victims.

Carlos Bell, 30, of Waldorf, Maryland, was served with the latest indictment on Oct. 20 and included charges from the previous two indictments filed in June and July. Prosecutors said they would be seeking a life sentence for Bell upon conviction.

The 206 charges stem from allegations over two years of sexually assaulting children, including some victims from Benjamin Stoddert Middle School, from May 2015 to June 2017. The ages of the 28 identified alleged victims and the 14 unidentified alleged victims range from 11 years old to 17 years old.

State officials said they are not aware of any alleged victims testing positive for HIV. However, there are five charges against Bell for attempted transfer of HIV.

Bell is being held without bond. His trial on the charges is schedule for Jan. 8, 2018.
