A propane truck overturned Thursday morning in Waldorf, prompting evacuations of nearby areas.

The truck was on Bensville Road near Carrie Court in Waldorf.

The roadway was closed between Route 228 and Zoll Lane. Residents of Valley Drive, Sedgeland Court, Carrie Court, Shannon Drive, Poplar Court and Paperbirch Court were evacuated. Authorities lifted the evacuations about 4 p.m. and said all routes were passable again.

Children who live in those areas were dismissed from school only when their parents picked them up at the end of the school day, according to Charles County Public Schools. The school system notified parents of students at Diggs Elementary School, Davis Middle School and North Point High School in Waldorf.

Residents can call the spill hotline at 301-609-3535 with questions.
