The future is looking brighter for the Eternal Flame at Arlington National Cemetery.

A local company has been awarded a contract to upgrade the flame on the grave of President John F. Kennedy.

Kathryn Condon, the executive director of the cemetery, said the current flame, which was installed in 1967, is experiencing malfunctions.

“This repair will ensure that the Eternal Flame remains the iconic symbol for all who come to visit this national treasure for generations to come,” Condon said.

Over the next three months, Meltech Corporation of Landover, Md., will be installing automated controls and a more energy-efficient system.
