Lillie Morris, 67, Dies After Being Found Wounded Outside Md. Home; Granddaughter Arrested

Police say a 19-year-old woman was arrested for killing her 67-year-old grandmother Monday afternoon in Jefferson, Maryland.

A passing driver called 911 and said he saw someone lying in front of a home in the 5400 block of Burkittsville Road just before 3 p.m. Monday, Maryland State Police said.

Crews found Lillie M. Morris with stab wounds, police said. Morris died of her injuries while she was being transported to a local hospital.

Maryland State troopers, along with deputies from the Frederick and Washington County sheriffs' offices, established a perimeter around the scene to search for any possible suspects, but did not find anyone.

Wednesday, police announced they arrested Morris' granddaughter, Hestina Harris, in connection with her death. Harris is facing first-degree murder, second-degree murder and first-degree assault charges.

Morris worked for Frederick County Public Schools for 29 years, most of it at Brunswick High School (BHS), according to a message from the school.

Morris herself had graduated from BHS in 1965. She later worked as an instructional assistant for the school's science teachers and then in agricultural science classes. Morris was also a cheerleading coach and advisor for the Minority Essence Club, according to BHS.

"Mrs. Morris always encourages students to do well and to know her was to love her," the school's message said.

The school is offering counseling for any students or staff members who might need it Tuesday.

Editor's Note: Police originally gave Morris' age as 77.
