Man, 82, Dies After Fairfax County House Fire

A house fire in Fairfax County, Virginia, claimed a man and his cat Saturday night, fire officials said.

The blaze broke out at home in the 3700 block of Logan Court in the Alexandria section of the county. When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the house.

An 82-year-old man was found inside with life-threatening injuries. The man died as medics performed CPR on him on the way to the hospital, fire officials said.

A fire official with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department said the cause of the fire is likely electrical in nature. Officials don't know why the man wasn't able to escape.

Firefighters discovered "slight" hoarding conditions at the home, according to fire officials.

A cat was also found dead at the home.
