The powerful storms that blew through the region overnight knocked down three large trees along East-West Highway in Chevy Chase, Md.
The downed trees cut power to several hundred people and shut down the road between Jones Mill and Connecticut Avenue.
One of the trees fell directly on a man's van -- while he was in it. The man was not seriously injured. Another tree knocked off the metal arm of a post for an electronic traffic sign and the other sheered off a utility pole.
There was no word on when the road would be re-opened for the morning commute. Power should be back on for all by 9 a.m.
