Earthquake Damage: Are You Covered?

If you had any damage to your home from Tuesday's quake, will your insurance cover it?

Te Insurance Information Institute says that earthquakes generally are not covered under standard homeowners insurance policies. You would have to buy separate earthquake insurance to be covered from the shaking and cracking that can destroy personal property.

However, standard homeowners insurance will cover other types of damage from earthquakes. For example, it could cover water damage from a water pipe bursting.

When it comes to your car, it should be covered under the comprehensive part of the auto insurance policy.
