Dulles Ranks 7th “Worst” in Airport Survey

Travel & Leisure readers rank BWI 6th "Best"

The Washington region is home to some of the worst travel in the country when it comes to the roads, and according to a recent survey, the District -- rather northern Virginia -- also houses one of the "worst" airports in the country.

Travel & Leisure ranked Dulles International Airport as the seventh worst airport. The magazine asked readers to rank the nation's 22 major airports base on a number of factors. Among the factors: Flight delays, dining and shopping, check-in and security, transportation, and location.

Dulles lost major points for its location, coming in 19th. It also ranked 17th when it comes to the staff, which, according to the magazine, "won't exactly jump to attention."

New York's LaGuardia Airport ranked worst in the nation, followed by LAX and Philadelphia.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Minneapolis ranked best in the nation. Also making the "best" list, Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.

BWI got points for having one of the best records for on-time flights. It also got high marks for its easy check-in and speedy security check.
