Driver's Ed to Become Mandatory for New DC Drivers

D.C. residents who want to get a driver's license for the first time will now be required to take a mandatory driver's ed course.

The new rule goes into effect May 1. The courses can be taken in D.C., Maryland or Virginia, as long as it's certified by the DMV.

District residents who can prove they have had a driver license before are not required to enroll in driver education.
