Driver Leaves Scene After Striking Bicyclist Near Union Station

Police are searching for the person who struck a bicyclist near Union Station Thursday night and left the scene.

Authorities say the victim was riding a Capital Bikeshare bicycle in the 200 block of H Street NE when he was hit by a dark gray, four-door Honda Accord around 10:30 p.m.

The bicyclist was taken to an area hospital with serious to life-threatening injuries, where he remained Friday evening.

"It's concerning that some just hits someone and goes off, particularly on a well-lit street like this," bicyclist Ross Nizlek said.

Shane Farthing with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association told News4 H Street NE is an area of serious concern for bicyclists.

"H Street is quickly growing and it's a difficult area for bicyclists," he said. "I just want to let people know there is other infrastructure made for bikes on G Street and I Street."

Police say the striking vehicle - a dark gray 4-door Honda Accord -- may have suffered some damage.
