Driver Killed in Crash on “Notorious” Stretch of Beltway

Car struck guardrail, crashed into barrier wall

The wet road may have contributed to a fatal crash on a stretch of the Beltway “notorious” for single-car crashes, according to Montgomery County police.

Dung Phan, 43, of Sterling, Va., struck a guardrail in his Toyota Corolla on a curved portion of the Outer Loop near Route 355 late Wednesday. He then crashed into a concrete barrier wall.

Phan died from the injuries he suffered in the crash.

Speed may have been a factor in the crash, police said, but alcohol was not.
