Dozens of Dirt Bike Riders Swarm D.C. Streets

A group of more than 50 people on dirt bikes and ATVs stopped traffic and performed stunts on major roadways Sunday in Washington, Maryland and Virginia, drivers told police, News4 has learned.

Police reportedly received several calls between 5 and 6 p.m. Sunday about large groups of the vehicles, which are illegal on D.C. streets.

Video shot by a D.C. man shows dozens of people on dirt bikes, ATVs and bicycles flood a street and sidewalk in NoMa.

More than 100 of the riders were caught on camera on the Capital Beltway, WTOP reported. The video shows riders popping wheelies, doing burn-outs and even driving the wrong way.

D.C. police said in August they would offer a $250 reward in exchange for information on illegal dirt bikes, all-terrain vehicles and mini-bikes being driven in the District.

"Mini-bikes, dirt bikes, all-terrain vehicles and other motorized bikes and multi-wheeled vehicles pose a danger to pedestrians and other motorists," a flier distributed this summer said.
