One Dead, One Injured in Northeast Shooting

Shooting occurred early Saturday morning

DC Police are investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning.

A 24-year-old Maryland man died and a 16-year-old girl was injured after being shot in a car near a gas station at 4501 Benning Road in Northeast at around 4 a.m. Investigators say that a man and a juvenile female were found suffering from gunshot wounds and were transported to local hospitals.

The man, who was identified as Stephon Way of Upper Marlboro, later died of his injuries. The 16-year-old, a native of Southeast whose name has not been released, was described as having non life-threatening injuries.

Police believe that the shooter made a getaway in a silver Ford sedan. It is believed that the shooting took place after a verbal altercation between the shooter and Way.

Investigators are looking for a suspect, though no description has been released.
