Dog Trapped in Septic Tank for Several Hours

Dog was panicked, cold and a little smelly

A dog in Wicomico County, Md., managed to get himself into a stinky mess by getting stuck in a septic tank.

Salisbury Animal Control Officer Ed Stewart said he found the poor pooch on Monday. It had gotten into a 10-foot hole and was panicked, cold and, of course, a little smelly.

Stewart said it appears the dog fell through a thin cover above the tank and found himself stuck for several hours.

Some people who live near the tank heard the dog barking and called authorities. Steward and a fire department official rescued it and then took it to an animal hospital.

Stewart said it's a good thing someone found the dog when they did because he's probably about 10 years old.

Right now, the dog is living with foster parents, but the Humane Society of Wicomico County said they've received several calls from people interested in adopting him.
