Former Walter Reed Pharmacist Charged in Husband's Death

A woman who has worked as a pharmacist at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in her husband's death.

Prosecutors say Diana Lalchan pleaded not guilty Friday in D.C. Superior Court. A grand jury charged her Thursday with first-degree murder while armed and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence, even though a judge had earlier reduced the charge to voluntary manslaughter.

Lalchan was arrested in March after telling police she had shot her husband, Christopher Lalchan, inside their southwest Washington apartment.

Prosecutors say the couple had been arguing for hours when Lalchan fired three shots at her husband with a semi-automatic handgun. One shot struck the back of his head.

Her lawyer didn't immediately return a call seeking comment.
