WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., has taken an early exit from Congress.

Davis vacated his seat Friday, weeks before the end of the 110th Congress, to take a job in the private sector. Davis began working at Deloitte Consulting Monday in the firm's federal government services division.

He represented the 11th District in northern Virginia since 1995 but chose not to run for an eighth term.

The clerk of the House will manage Davis' office until the new Congress is sworn in.

Gerry Connolly was elected to fill Davis' seat.
