Daughter's Boyfriend Charged in Missing Woman's Death

Woman's body stuffed in plastic storage container

A woman who was believed to be missing may have been murdered by her daughter's boyfriend.

Ivo Portillo-Guevara, 17, has been arrested by Montgomery County Police in the death of Rosa Vasquez, who disappeared on August 31. Her body was found Thursday in a blue plastic storage container in her family's backyard in Silver Spring, Md.

According to court documents, Portillo-Guevara was dating Vasquez's daughter and Vasquez allegedly did not approve.

On the night of August 30th, Vasquez's daughter had let the suspect into the family home off Castle Terrace, where she kept him hidden in the basement.

After the daughter left for school, Portillo-Guevara sent a text message to the daughter saying Vasquez had found him there and they had an argument, police said.

Police say they believe that he killed Vasquez in her home and then hid her in the backyard container.

When Vasquez, a longtime Costco employee who was very punctual, did not show up for her Aug. 31 shift and didn't call her best friend, who also works at the store, employees panicked, Sedia Lynch, an assistant manager at the store, told The Washington Post.

"She was our alarm clock, always coming in at 7 o'clock and saying 'hi' to everyone," Lynch said.

Her ex-husband, William Vasquez, called police to report her missing.  It was during the search for Vasquez that Portillo-Guevara became a suspect, police said.

Police have temporarily decided to hold off on asking the family for more details in Vasquez's death, in an effort to be sensitive to the family at this time, Montgomery County Police Lt. Paul Starks told NBCWashington.

"The main thing is, we believe that we have her [Vasquez's] assailant in custody," Starks said.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
