D.C. Shelter Takes in Displaced Dogs From the Gulf Coast

Hurricane Isaac has overwhelmed animal shelters in the gulf states, so a local D.C. shelter is offering a helping hand.

The Washington Animal Rescue League has taken in nine dogs, including four puppies, that were rescued from Mississippi, where they were displaced by Hurricane Isaac.

"We're going to give them a little time to settle in here," says shelter director Maureen Sosa. "In the next couple days we will get them medically cleared, spayed and neutered, and then we'll do behavioral evaluations."

The hope is that they will be cleared for adoption and their last trip will be to a forever home.
