A D.C. Police Officer has been charged with DUI and assault with a dangerous weapon after a shooting near 1st and Pearce Streets Northwest. Police are looking into whether the incident was motivated by bias.
An argument between an off-duty D.C. police officer and a group of people in a convenience store early Friday morning ended in a vehicle collision and a shooting after the officer allegedly followed the group out of the store and shot three people.
A.J. Singletary is with Gays and Lesbians Opposing Violence -- he says two of the three victims were transgendered.
"There were possibly words exchanged that this could indicate this was a bias-related crime, and that is currently under investigation."
He says there has been an increase in hate-motivated crimes against gay and transgendered people in the District.
Police Chief Cathy Lanier says police are investigating.
All of the victims are expected to recover.
