Deployment Ceremony for D.C. National Guard

The troops are headed to Afghanistan to help with Operation Enduring Freedom

A deployment ceremony honoring two District Army National Guard units was held at the DC Armory in Southeast today.

The soldiers from the 273rd MP and 121st CID are headed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The heartfelt send-off has become routine for many of the troops. But for some, it was their first time being deployed.

“It's a new experience and I'm ready for it," PFC Nickoy Noel said. "I'm just hoping my family can stay strong.”

The group will go to Texas for training before heading to Afghanistan next month.
