A 31-year-old man from Woodbridge is on trial for torturing an animal.
The mother of Robert Marion McGuire told police that her son cut the head off of the family cat, Insidenova reported.
On March 4, police responded to a house on the 4500 block of Dale Boulevard to investigate a domestic disturbance. When authorities arrived, Insidenova reported, a woman told them that her son had chopped the head off of her cat.

According to the court documents, police asked McGuire if he cut the head off the cat and he “nodded his head indicating yes” and later stated he killed the cat.
Police said there were scratches on McGuire’s hands “that may have been caused by a defensive animal.”
McGuire told police when he was arrested that a gash on his head was self-inflcited. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
McGuire is on Virginia’s sex offender registry for abducting a minor in 2002. Insidenova said he waived his right to a grand jury this month, and will enter a plea on August 25.
