Virginia State Trooper Killed in Traffic Accident

A Virginia State Trooper died responding to a call on Friday.

State Police said Adam Bowen, 28, was killed instantly in a two-car accident.

The incident happened at the intersection of Route 3 and Madison Drive in King George County.  At 6:45 p.m. on Friday evening, Trooper Bowen was responding to a call to assist another trooper.

When his Ford Crown Victoria crossed the intersection, he collided with a Hyundai Elantra.

The impact sent the trooper's vehicle into a traffic light pole, splitting it in half.  Bowen, who was wearing his seat belt, died instantly.

The driver and passenger in the Hyundai suffered minor injuries.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Adam's family, friends, and fellow troopers during this difficult time," said Colonel W. Steven Flaherty, Virginia State Police Superintendent.

Bowen was a trooper since July of 2008.  A native of Warsaw, Va., he is survived by his fiance and his parents.
