The DC Department of Urban Forrestry is working to find out what happened to dozens of trees in DC's Bloomingdale neighborhood, vandalized with deep, round marks. (Published Tuesday, March 11, 2014)

Police arrested a man last week for carving deep holes in the trees. Some of the smaller trees may die. The marks could also cause larger trees to develop dangerous cracks.

The Urban Forestry Administration is monitoring the damage.

Officials say the vandalism could cost taxpayers thousands of dollars to replace.

If you have any information on the vandalism, you're asked to call 311. D.C. Police will canvass the neighborhood Wednesday for information.
