D.C. Vandalism Investigation Now Covers 750 Trees

The investigation into damaged trees in northwest D.C. is much bigger than first thought.

The D.C. Department of Transportation now says the vandal hit 750 trees in Bloomingdale and Truxton Circle.

Police arrested a man last week for carving deep holes in the trees. Some of the smaller trees may die. The marks could also cause larger trees to develop dangerous cracks.

The Urban Forestry Administration is monitoring the damage.

Officials say the vandalism could cost taxpayers thousands of dollars to replace.

If you have any information on the vandalism, you're asked to call 311. D.C. Police will canvass the neighborhood Wednesday for information.
