Va. Lawmaker Wants State to Adopt Caylee's Law

Virginia may be joining many other states in adopting a "Caylee's Law" for parents.

The Virginia State Crime Commission on Monday directed its staff to draft legislation making failure to report a missing child a crime. Commission attorney Stewart Petoe said as many as 30 states are considering similar legislation inspired by the recent acquittal of Casey Anthony in the death of her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, in Florida.

Casey Anthony reportedly denied to relatives that the child was missing and failed to notify authorities. Caylee's skeletal remains were found months later.

State Sen. Janet Howell said she has received about 400 emails from constituents urging adoption of a Caylee's Law in Virginia.

The commission will review a first draft of the legislation later this year.
