Trash and recycling collection in the District will begin earlier in the morning due to high temps expected the rest of this week.

D.C. Department of Public Works crews will begin at 6 a.m., an hour earlier than usual, on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

An earlier start time will help keep crews out of the worst of the heat.

Temperatures are predicted to reach near-record levels in the high 90s Wednesday and Thursday, with Friday topping 90 degrees, too.

Residents can put their trash and recyclables out for pickup starting at 6 p.m. the day before collection. Containers should be brought back inside by 8 p.m. on the day of pickup.

Crews will continue to use an earlier schedule throughout the summer, on days when the temperature and heat index are predicted to be 90 degrees or higher, or if there is a Code Orange or Code Red air quality.
