DC To Recognize Gay Marriage in Other States

Vermont joined the list Tuesday. D.C. may not be far behind.
Yesterday we told you about a Change.org list that had the District No. 5 among areas it thought could be next to pass a same-sex marriage bill.
On Tuesday, D.C. Council took a step in that direction by voting to recognize gay marriages performed in other states.
Lawmakers said Tuesday's unanimous vote moves the city closer to eventually allowing same-sex marriages to be performed in the nation's capital.
Gay couples married in other states are currently recognized as domestic partners when they move to Washington.
The council will hold a final vote on the measure next month.
The D.C. Council's action comes the same day that Vermont became the fourth state to legalize gay marriage, joining Connecticut, Massachusetts and Iowa. If you were following, Change.org had Vermont at No. 2 on its list.
Council member David Catania, who is gay, lauded the D.C. vote as "the march toward human rights and equality."
