Three Dead in Southeast Car Crash

A driver and two passengers died in an early morning crash, and a fourth person is in the hospital in serious condition.

Police said the fatal crash happened on the 1300 block of Mississippi Avenue in the Southeast.

According to investigators, a female driver was traveling at a high rate of speed with three others in her can.  After hitting a speed bump, the vehicle started to slide and the driver lost control.

Police said three people were ejected from the car, a 2007 Mitsubishi Galant.  The vehicle itself flipped, and impacted two large trees in Oxon Run Park.  The driver survived the crash but died later at the hospital.

The surviving crash victim is a female, who was sitting in the backseat.

Investigators told NBC Washington there was evidence of alcohol at the crash scene, and they are looking at that as a contributing factor in the accident.

The investigation continues.  Check back with NBC Washington for more updates as they develop.
