D.C. Teen Convicted in Home Invasions, Sex Assault

A teenager has been found guilty of two home invasions in Northeast Washington, one of which included an armed sexual assault.

The D.C. Superior Court jury found 19-year-old Tavon Barber of D.C. guilty of 21 counts, including armed burglary and sexual abuse. He faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced Feb. 5.

Last June, prosecutors say Barber broke into a home as two people slept, and stole their laptops, a book bag, and a car.

The next morning, prosecutors say Barber and another man broke into another home and woke a married couple. They say Barber sexually assaulted the wife while holding her husband at gunpoint. The husband fought back, a struggle ensued, and police say Barber fired a shot at the man's head before fleeing.
