Teen Breaking Into Cars Shoots Himself With Stolen Gun: Report

A teenager from Warrenton may have pulled a Plaxico Burress-like move in Prince William County over the weekend, Inside Nova reported.

Police said a teenager breaking into cars shot himself with a stolen gun, the paper reported.

From Inside Nova:

Ira Wayne Cloniger called police about 4:30 a.m. Friday and said he had been robbed at gunpoint by three men, said Prince William County police spokesman Jonathan Perok. Cloniger said he tried to take a gun from one man, the gun went off, and struck him in the leg, Perok said.

Police investigated and determined the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, Perok said.

Police said that Cloniger and a 16-year-old accomplice had been stealing items from cars in the Victory Lakes region.  At some point while loaded down with stolen GPS units and laptops, a handgun lifted from one of the cars discharged, hitting Cloniger in the leg.

The 19-year old faces a number of charges, including contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
