D.C. Suggests Southeast Site for New FBI Headquarters

The District of Columbia is making a bid to keep the FBI headquarters in the nation's capital.

Mayor Vincent Gray said Tuesday that he had proposed relocating the FBI to Poplar Point, a 110-acre site in southeast Washington that is near several highways, bike paths and Metro stations.

The move comes as the General Services Administration evaluates potential new locations for the FBI, which has been located inside the J. Edgar Hoover Building on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington since the mid-1970s. Communities in Maryland and Virginia are also competing for the right to host the headquarters.

D.C. officials say they'd like the chance to redevelop the existing J. Edgar Hoover Building and make it part of “the downtown core.”
