Power Line Downed by Storm Kills in Temple Hills

Friday night's violent weather is being blamed for the death of a 25-year-old man in Prince George's County.

Authorities said around 2 a.m. on Saturday, they received a call for downed power lines near Naylor Road and Southern Avenue in Temple Hills.

A large tree had fallen onto the power lines there, which carried a 13,000 volts of electricity.  The tree pressing on the lines created enough tension to snap a utility poll.

While emergency personnel were on the scene assessing the damage, they discovered an injured man where the power lines had fallen.  However, because the lines were still electrified, paramedics were unable to intially get to the man to render aid.

It was only after the power had been cut that rescuers were able to reach the injured man.  However, he had sustained burns over 50 percent of his body, and had sustained crushing injuries, and was pronounced dead on the scene.  No other identification besides the victims age was immediately available.
