The D.C. police department is introducing a new dog trained to track human scent.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier will introduce the bloodhound Sam at police headquarters Thursday.

Officials say Sam's job will be to track people over long distances, which will be especially helpful when they are looking for missing persons. Sam's skills will serve as a complement to the several department dogs already trained to conduct human tracks.
