D.C. Police Shoot Man Near Convention Center

Officers shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at police in Northwest Washington, D.C. police said.

The shooting occurred late Tuesday night. Police said 44-year-old Michael Ashe of Southeast suffered non-life-threatening injuries after he was shot by officers.

Police said Ashe is suspected of shooting another man before officers arrived. That man is also expected to survive.

Police were called to an intersection about five blocks away from the Washington Convention Center late Tuesday for a report of shots fired. Police said officers saw an armed man fleeing the scene. They confronted him nearby, and police said officers opened fire after he refused to drop his weapon.

Ashe has been charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault on a police officer.
