D.C.’s police chief said Tuesday it doesn’t matter what the city’s marijuana laws are as long as they are clearly defined.
The majority of the D.C. Council and the mayor favor some type of decriminalization, and there is even some support for legalization.
Chief Cathy Lanier said it doesn't matter which track lawmakers take.
“Just like with cigarettes and alcohol and all those other things, are there going to be restrictions on where you can smoke the marijuana?” Lanier asked. “Some people find cigarette smoke and certainly marijuana smoke offensive, so what are the restrictions around where it could be used in public space and things like that?”
The D.C. Council could give decriminalization preliminary approval as early as next month.
