Police Charge Son in Father's Murder

A man has been charged with killing his father on the Fourth of July.

Fairfax County police said they received a call on Monday at 10:15 p.m. reporting a break in and a stabbing.  When they arrived at the home in the 1200 block of Colvin Meadows Lane in Great Falls, Va., they they discovered wheelchair-bound Lawrence Emmer, 62, suffering from stab wounds, police said.

Authorities said that the man's son, 25-year-old Casey Emmer, had made the 911 call.  Casey Emmer told police that there had been a break-in at his father's house.  The information triggered a search outside the house with dogs and a helicopter for a possible suspect.

But after the investigation continued inside, police placed Casey Emmer, the victim's son, under arrest.

Neighbors told NBC Washington's Jane Watrel that Casey Emmer is autistic.

Two others who live at the home were out of the house to watch fireworks, Watrel reported.

According to authorities, this was the sixth homicide in Fairfax County for the year.
