Overnight Road Closures in Va. Start Sunday

In case you missed out on the traffic around Falls Church on Sunday, new road construction will give you another chance to get slowed down.

Construction crews will begin swinging pieces of the aerial bridge into place that will eventually carry the Dulles Corridor Metro train.  That process requires a large horizontal train will be lifting materials into place.

For drivers, this means the start of nightly lane closures.  The two right thru lanes of northbound I-495 at Route 123 will be shut down on Sunday, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., and then Monday, from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m.  A third lane will be taken out of service overnight from Tuesday until Friday.

Traffic will be allowed to pass through the interchange, but expect delays, starting at Route 7.  These overnight closings will continue to happen throughout the year until the bridge construction is complete.

For more info on the project, check out the Dulles Metro website.
