D.C. Officials to Detail Effects of Federal Shutdown

District of Columbia officials are set to detail the ways in which the city was affected by the federal government shutdown.

The city was barred from spending its local tax dollars during the 16-day shutdown and had to use emergency funds to keep the government running. Mayor Vincent Gray has said the city lost tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue and that the hospitality industry was especially hard-hit.

The D.C. Council will listen to testimony on Friday from Chief Financial Officer Natwar Gandhi and the mayor's budget director on issues including how much money the city lost and how it plans to replenish its reserve funds.
