D.C. Officials Celebrate Completion of New School

District of Columbia officials have cut the ribbon on a new middle school that will focus on world languages and the arts.

Mayor Vincent Gray and other officials celebrated the completion of construction of the new Brookland Middle School on Saturday.

The school is in a fast-growing northeast Washington neighborhood. It's on the site of an elementary school that was closed in 2008.

The new school will open to students next August. It's the only stand-alone middle school in the District's Ward 5.

The 100,000-square-foot facility includes a theater, two performing arts practice spaces, a gymnasium, a media center and a digital-arts lab.
