A D.C. police officer was shot and wounded at approximately 5 a.m. Saturday.

The incident occurred in the 700 block of Crittenden St. N.E. Officers responded to a report of an armed man, who was on the porch of a house. When office ordered him to drop his weaon, he refused, and gunfire was exchanged.

An officer was shot multiple times, but was conscious and breathing when he was transported to a hospital. He is in stable condition.

The suspect, a 15-year-old male, was also struck by gunfire. He fled the scene but was later found hiding under a porch on the block. He was arrested and charged with Assault With Intent to Kill While Armed.
