New Red Light Cameras in Northern Virginia

You may want to think twice before gunning it through intersections in Virginia this morning.  Beginning today, running a red light could cost you $50.

Five new red light cameras are up and running in Alexandria and Fairfax City.  Two of the cameras are on South Patrick Street, at Franklin and Gibbon Streets. Another is at Duke and South Walker Street.

In Fairfax City, cameras can be found at the intersection of North Street and University Blvd. and at Fairfax Blvd. and Fairfax Circle.

Red light cameras have sparked controversy. Supporters say they stop people from running lights, but opponents point to research indicating that they increase rear end collisions.
