Police have charged a Germantown man with second degree homicide.
Brandon Lamont Dashiell, 24, beat a 28-year-old man about the head so badly that he later died at a hospital, authorities said in a release. The assault happened at the victim's house in Gaithersburg.
Police said they responded at 10:50 p.m. to a report of an assault at the 100 block of Steven Court in Gaithersburg. When they arrived, they discovered Justin Eugene Carter, 28, laying on the ground unconscious. Carter lived at the residence.
After an investigation, police said that Dashiell had been at the house during a family gathering that evening. The suspect got into a physical altercation with the victim, starting on the deck of the house and then spilling down into the yard.
Police said Carter was transported to a nearby hospital with blunt trauma injuries, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Dashiell left the residence before police arrived on Saturday night, but was in police custody on Sunday.
