D.C. Murder Rate Up Nearly 20 Percent

The District's murder rate has increased by nearly 20 percent, D.C. police confirmed Friday. 

There have been 78 homicides in the city this year, a 18.2 percent increase over last year's rate. At this time last year, there had been 66 murders. 

The most recent homicide happened Thursday evening in the 100 block of Darrington Street SW. Police say 25-year-old Isiah Keenen Agyekum was shot just before 5 p.m. He was transported to an area hospital, where he later died.
